{"id":2329,"date":"2012-07-23T01:00:39","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T05:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biodiversityinfocus.com\/blog\/?p=2329"},"modified":"2012-07-22T20:08:06","modified_gmt":"2012-07-23T00:08:06","slug":"happy-international-moth-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.biodiversityinfocus.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/23\/happy-international-moth-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy (Inter)National Moth Week!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Happy <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalmothweek.org\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">(Inter)National Moth Week<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nationalmothweek.org\/blog\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"National Moth Week\" src=\"http:\/\/nationalmothweek.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/10_2011_NMWlogoSmall.jpg\" alt=\"National Moth Week\" width=\"376\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The organizers of National Moth Week have done a great job getting people to volunteer to do public moth-related events, <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalmothweek.org\/locations\/\" target=\"_blank\">so check to see if there&#8217;s something going on in your neck of the woods<\/a>. If there aren&#8217;t, that doesn&#8217;t have to stop you from mothing; go hang out at bright lights just after dark and see what you can find!<\/p>\n<p>This week should be pretty fun, and I&#8217;m going to try and get out at least one night to see if I can&#8217;t add to my abysmally poor list of moth photographs, and will try and tweet any encounters I have with moths throughout the week. I&#8217;ll also be contributing any new sightings to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectnoah.org\/users\/Morgan+Jackson\" target=\"_blank\">Project Noah<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/users\/morgandjackson\" target=\"_blank\">iNaturalist<\/a>, so feel free to follow along with me there.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve successfully ignored the Lepidoptera thus far in my entomological career, so I&#8217;m taking this opportunity to do a little learning and see if I can&#8217;t improve on my moth ID skills. I&#8217;m going to be posting photos of moths throughout the week, some from North America which I&#8217;ve been able to identify, and some from my tropical travels which I have no idea about. If you notice that I messed up an identification, please feel free to gloat and mock my error; perhaps it&#8217;ll teach me not to ignore an entire order of insects from now on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and because I can&#8217;t completely turn my blog over to moths, I&#8217;m going to be featuring their dipteran parasites whenever possible, so expect plenty of tachinid talk this week too!<\/p>\n<p>Happy Mothing! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy (Inter)National Moth Week!
